Some genes code for proteins or structures that are very important to the life of an organism.

The sequence of the nucleotides (A’s G’s C’s and T’s) in the DNA of these really important genes
doesn’t change very much through time (or evolution), because minor changes in the way the important
structure or protein is formed could destroy or drastically change the way it works.
